The foods you should eat to make you feel better when under the weather

When we fall ill, whether it’s a cold, the flu or a virus, eating healthy and drinking water is a great way to boost your immune system, and consequently, help you get better quicker. If you’re feeling under the weather, here are the foods you should eat.

Hot beverages - Hot drinks such as tea can help ease sneezing, fatigue, and sore throats. Tea naturally has bacteria-fighting compounds, which help fight off infections when you’re unwell. Drinking tea is also a great way to stay hydrated and soothe a sore throat, and congestion at the same time. Things such as chamomile tea and decaf green tea can soothe the sinuses and help reduce an upset stomach.

Citrus fruits - Whilst drinking lots of orange juice won’t cure a cold, the high level of vitamin C can reduce the severity of your symptoms and lessen the days when you’re sick. Try fruits such as oranges, lemons, grapefruit, and limes as they are immune-boosting fruits that contain flavonoids - which aid improving the overall function of the immune system.

Leafy greens and vegetables - Vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, kale, and collard greens have powerful antioxidants to fight off infection. Foods that help reduce inflammation can be helpful when experiencing cold-like symptoms.

Eggs - When you’re unwell, the last thing you want to do is eat lots of food, especially a big meal that has all your nutrients in it. However, you still need to maintain your strength, and this is where things like eggs can come in. Whether you have an omelet of some scrambled eggs, it’ll provide you with zinc, which is a mineral found in most cold medicines and remedies.
